Θέλεις να γίνεις καλύτερος άνθρωπος; Πιάσε ένα από τα βιβλία που στέκονται στα σκονισμένα ράφια της βιβλιοθήκης σου, διότι νέα έρευνα δείχνει πως όσοι διαβάζουν τακτικά γίνονται με τον καιρό πιο ευγενικοί, φιλικοί και συναισθηματικοί άνθρωποι.
Η μελέτη, η οποία διενεργήθηκε από το πανεπιστήμιο Κίνγκστον του Λονδίνου, διαπίστωσε ότι οι άνθρωποι που διαβάζουν βιβλία είναι πιο κοινωνικοί σε σχέση με όσους προτιμούν την τηλεόραση από τις σελίδες ενός μυθιστορήματος. Στην έρευνα συμμετείχαν 123 άτομα. Πρώτα απάντησαν σε ένα ερωτηματολόγιο για ποια βιβλία τους αρέσουν, για το τι βλέπουν στην τηλεόραση και στη συνέχεια εξετάστηκαν πάνω στις διαπροσωπικές και επικοινωνιακές δεξιότητές τους.
Ωστόσο, όλα τα βιβλία δεν είναι ίδια. Σύμφωνα με τους πανεπιστημιακούς του Κίνγκστον το είδος της λογοτεχνίας που προτιμά κάθε άνθρωπος είναι ενδεικτικό της συναισθηματικής του ευφυΐας. Οι αναγνώστες μυθιστορημάτων παρουσίασαν μεγαλύτερη θετική κοινωνική συμπεριφορά, ενώ όσοι διαβάζουν πρόζα ή ρομαντικές νουβέλες είναι σαφώς πιο συναισθηματικές ψυχές. Οι λάτρεις της πιο πειραματικής λογοτεχνίας είναι άτομα με πολύπλευρη προσωπικότητα, ενώ οι πιο κοινωνικοί όλων είναι όσοι αγαπούν τα βιβλία με χιούμορ.
